I really can’t stress this enough; Eating food is the #1 way for you to gain weight, as a hardgainer, or anyone else looking to make gains. (See our hardgainer diet tips page for more free tips.) If you don’t eat enough food, defined as not consuming enough calories, you will not gain weight. In fact, consuming enough calories is the most important part of your training! Let me explain.

Peanut Butter: Around 190 Calories per 2 TBSP.

In order to gain weight, there are a few different things you need to pay attention to.

  1. Caloric intake.
  2. Activity level.
  3. Height.
  4. Weight.
  5. Age.
  6. Gender.

As shown in the calorie calculator that I will display below, you will need to fill in each of the above categories to see how many calories you will need to consume to maintain and gain weight.

Example:

For me, I need to consume 3,176 calories per day, to maintain my current weight. If I would like to gain 1 pound per week, I would need to consume 3,676 calories per day. That’s 500 extra calories per day than normal.

500 calories * 7 days = 3,500 extra calories. 3,500 calories = 1 pound.

As you can see, you need to eat 500 more calories extra, than your body needs on a daily basis. Doing this 7 times a week will allow you to gain about 1 pound a week.

That being said, consuming 500 extra calories every day is extremely important.

Remember, you need around 3,500 extra calories per week, to gain 1 pound per week. (3,500 calories = 1 pound.) If you don’t bring in enough calories, you will NEVER make gains, plain and simple.
